Distillique
Role
Design, Development, Implementation & Business Process Automation
Overview
Distillique had, in a only a few years, grown to become the biggest and most prominent distillery supplier in South Africa, and had started imprinting across the African continent at a blistering pace. For that reason this project required a re-evaluation of the entire business, the CI and the digital footprint....in othert words, a turnkey digital solution.
Scope
UX/UI design and development of website and client portal. Website implementation and SQL server administration. I was also responsible for evaluating the business processes and implementation of business process automation. Lastly I was responsible for creating training materials for distillation courses.
UX Process
On a project, as a UX designer, I always follow the essential and reiterative UX design thinking process. This project was no exception:
1. Empathise (Research and interviews)
2. Define (Problem statement)
3. Ideate
4. Prototype (Low fidelity, high fidelity)
5. Test (design validation)

UI Design
Regarding user interface design, I have always stuck to the atomic design methodology. Functional and effective design can always be defined by the answers to my four golden UI questions:
1. Have you placed the user in control?
2. Has product interaction been made as easy as possible?
3. Have you eliminated cognative load as much as possible?
4. Have you focussed on consistancy?

Business process automation
A business without internal processes and workflows is equal to building a house without foundations. It will most definitely fall apart.
Becuase of the tremendous pace at which the business was growing and expanding, internal processes and workflows had to be implemented to ensure the sustainability of the growing business.

Project outcome
The final product was a good looking, effective and responsive web interface with an intergrated e-commerce client portal.
With the internal and external business processes now automated, the business could now move forward, grow and expand in a sustainable and ultimately, profitable way.
This was a challenging project seeing as I was the sole designer and developer. However, I bagged a lot of new knowledge which makes this project one to write home about and one I can be proud of!
